Rev. Karen McDonald Smith

Rev. Karen was raised in western Pennsylvania where her family attended Oak Grove Presbyterian Church.  In that community and family that she was nurtured in faith and from an early age participated in the life of the church. She met her husband in college, and they have lived in California, Arkansas, Alaska, Virginia, and for many years in Louisville, Kentucky.

Karen has been a teacher and preschool director, a Christian bookstore manager, and a music director and Christian educator in numerous Presbyterian churches. Encouraged by the congregations she served Karen attended Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. She has been part of the national staff of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), a part-time chaplain in an elder-care facility, and a volunteer for a clothes closet, a food pantry, and a clinic. She enjoys getting to know people, and she considers it a privilege to listen to the life stories people of all ages share with her. Her hobbies include reading, creating needlework items (especially counted cross stitch, knitting, and crocheting), attending concerts and theater productions, watching football games and movies, and slow, relaxing walks in cool weather.

In 2016 Rev. Karen became the Transitional Pastor at Mount Tabor Presbyterian Church where she was warmly welcomed. We invite you to be part of this community of faith and share your stories with us, as together we journey into God’s exciting future!
